If you’re looking to build a wilderness retreat in a location accessible only by helicopter, floatplane, barge or by small truckloads – the “Gabriola” is the plan for you! All of the components in this home can be easily transported and then hand bombed off at site. Which means – no need for heavy equipment such as a forklift or a crane. All construction can also be done by hand: The interior and exterior walls are constructed from Pan-Abode’s solid, Western Red Cedar 4”x6” double tongue and groove, interlocking log system.  Also included in the house package are the purlins and the 2”x6” Western Red Cedar roofboards for the ceiling finish.

Note that the purlins extend outside the house and provide support for the 2”x6” roofboards that create the soffits on the gable sides.  Note also that the 2” x6” interior roofboards extend to provide soffit finishing on the eave sides. Additional components such as 2”x12” SPF roof joists, insulation, roofing, windows, doors and a 2”x8”/10” floor system are also included in the customer’s package – everything to the lock-up stage of construction.

This spacious two bedroom premium vacation home features vast expanses of glass and a classic “T” shape that naturally lends itself to panoramic views from surrounding decks. Low maintenance Western Red Cedar means more relaxing while you’re in your vacation retreat. The degree to which our customers can modify our standard plans is reflected in the Project Showcase featured home Off-Grid Luxury with the increase of size from 990 sq.ft. to 1382 sq.ft. and the 3 standard sliding patio doors have been replaced with 9 double French doors. This modified plan has also incorporated a second bathroom.

So, your off-grid home can be transported to your site, built by the homeowner, powered with solar panels, heated with a wood stove – and completely customized to meet your needs!
